Labradoodle Breed Information What is Out Crossing?

Out-crossing is an important element in our breeding program. We do not line breed. We cross-unrelated dogs, a Standard Poodle and a Labrador Retriever to breed a Labradoodle.

Weight and Size

Our standard adult weights are typically in the range from 45-75 pounds, with a few being either smaller or heavier. Obviously a host of factors including diet and exercise can influence growth and development and Adams cannot forecast nor guarantee adult sizes.

The males average height is 21.8 inches at the shoulder and females average height is 20.2 inches at the shoulder.

Colours And Coat Types

The puppies come in a variety of colors, including, blond, black, chocolate and cream. Their coats can vary in thickness, texture, length, and degree of wave or curl. The have a range of coat types ranging from short thin coarse hairy coats that are very easy to care through to very thick long curly coats, which are similar to the poodle coats and require regular clippings.

Many owners will trim their dogs themselves occasionally to keep them looking neat and clean. Whether the dogs are low shed or non-shed we do not guarantee this, however, in most circumstances the puppies seem to be fully compatible with allergy sufferers.

With regards to shedding about 70% are low or moderate shedders. 10% of dogs are non-shedding and the remaining shed similar to a Labrador Retriever.

Appearance

We would like to comment and proudly remark on how pleased and handsome the Labradoodle is in appearance. We appreciate the fact that our breeding program for the Labradoodle has retained much of the body structure and the physical appearance of the Labrador Retriever, by far the most popular breed.

Labradoodles and Allergies

Labradoodle were originally bred as a cross between Poodles and Labradors. The dogs were initially bred by the Australian Guide Dogs association in an attempt to produce a hypoallergenic guide dog.

They have had a lot of publicity in Australia and are widely believed to be hypoallergenic, which means that they do not cause allergies in people sensitive to dogs, however, we do not guarantee this. Up to 12 months of age their coats are changing and it is after this time when their adult coat comes in that the hypoallergenic nature of their coat can be truly determined.

Poodles have the coat type that are reliably hypoallergenic for people sensitive to airborne allergens. Poodle wool differs from normal dog hair in that the coat does not shed seasonally and does require regular clippings.
